Social Security Administration Sends Out Wrong Tax Information

The SSA announced last week that almost 3 million Social Security Benefit Statements (Form SSA-1099) mailed out in January were incorrect.  This document is used by Social Security recipients to fill out their federal income tax returns.

According to the SSA, the problem was created by computer error which added some Medicare Part C  and Part D premium deductions to the amounts reported for 2007.  Garnishment deductions were also affected.

Corrected SSA-1099s were to be mailed out by Friday  January 25.

Look for the words, “Corrected Notice” or “Corrected Tax Information” on the replacement forms.
